Contract award cooling water system Fluxys

Zwijndrecht, 3/1/2011

Grootint GRP Systems, a subsidiary of the Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG), has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation contract of the Seawater intake system for the Open Rack Vaporizer (ORV) at the LNG terminal for liquid natural gas of Fluxys LNG.

Fluxys LNG is building a so called Open Rack Vaporizer (ORV) at their terminal for liquid natural gas in Zeebrugge. An ORV system can regasify the cold, liquid natural gas (-160 °C) transported by LNG carriers to the LNG receiving terminals by using the heat from seawater. In combination with other regasification installations at the terminal, the ORV system can reduce the primary energy consumption for regasification with 35%, reduce the emission of CO² with 31% and NOx emission with 25%.

For the seawater intake lines, Grootint GRP Systems will prefabricate Glass Fibre Reinforced Piping (GRP) to spools at their prefabrication facility in Zwijndrecht. Fibreglass is non-corrosive, has excellent anti fouling characteristics and a much longer life expectancy when compared to a variety of construction materials. GRP is also the preferred choice in this highly corrosive environment.

Peter Matthijssen, Managing Director a.i. of Grootint GRP Systems says; “This project fits perfect in our chosen strategy to deliver the right solution to our clients and to offer the complete scope from engineering up to installation, including civil works.

“We are very happy to serve Fluxys and are confident to deliver this project safe and in time according to clients specifications, hence reaffirming the reputation of Grootint GRP Systems and the services and quality our customer can rely on”, Peter concludes.
